GOLGI APPARATUS

INTRODUCTION

           It is a type of organelle present in cytoplasm of cell.It is originate from Endoplasmic reticulum.

It is well developed in secretory cells which secretes different type of enzymes and other secretory material.

DISCOVERY

   It was first discovered and studied by camilio golgi in 1898 by using staining technique.

STRUCTURE

        Membrane bounded structures consist of flattened stacks of sacs in the eukaryotic cytoplasm.

These membrane bounded stacks are also called CISTERNAE.

CISTERNAE + VESICLES= GOLGI COMPLEX.

IMPORTANT POINT

       There is difference between ER and Golgi apparatus CISTERNAE. The Cisternae of ER are continous means these membranes are linked with each other while the Cisternae of  Golgi bodies are discontinous.

COMPOSITION OF GOLGI BODIES

           The Golgi bodies is composed of Protein,Enzyme,Glycoprotein,lipids and carbohydrates.

SYNTHESIS

     It is synthesized by Rough endoplasmic reticulum. 

UNIT OF GOLGI APPARATUS

        The golgi  bodies is made up of many units called as Dictoyosomes.

Each dictoyosome is made up of many curved flattened cisternae,associated tubules and secretory vesicles.

Dictotosomes has two faces.

PROXIMAL (CIS) or forming face convex shape present near or close to cell nucleus where vesicles pinched off from RER attached and convert into new cisternae.

DISTAL (TRANS) or maturing face Concave shape where golgi network is present and it is close to cell membrane.

FUNCTION OF GOLGI APPARATUS

1- It act as cell post office because it reciving,sorting and packaging proteins and lipids.

2-It is responsible for cell secretions like enzymes,proteins and different molecules.

3-It form cell wall.

4-It provide surface area for cell membrane.

5-It involve in transport of different molecules in cell.

6- Lysosomes also originate from golgi apparatus.

7- Here monosaccarides combine and form polysaccarides.
